Course Structure
The levels of linguistic competence are planned in correspondence to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.
Each language level spans a three-month duration and is structured as a module (January–March, April–June, July–September, or October–December), totaling 240 lesson hours per level.
Students have the flexibility to enroll in:
One or more full quarterly modules.
One or more individual months, where each monthly course consists of 80 lesson hours.
The monthly segments of the Regular Courses are structured to integrate different types of learning modules:
- Base Linguistic Modules (MLB) give special attention to the development of linguistic and communicative competence.
- Thematic Linguistic Modules (MLT), aim to develop functional, interactive, and pragmatic capacities through themes of interest related to the Italian culture and language.
- Cultural Modules (MC) are offered at the levels B1 –B2 - C1 - C2
Placement test. The entry level of students is determined by a placement test, given the first day of the course in Piazza Carlo Rosselli n° 27/28 at 09:00 am.
Classes are held at our main locations: Piazza Rosselli 27/28 (conveniently located opposite the train station) and Via dei Pispini 1 in the historic city center. Lessons are available from Monday to Friday, with morning or afternoon sessions. Class attendance is mandatory. To be eligible for the final exam, the cumulative absences of a student must not exceed 20% of the total hours scheduled for the course.
Final Exam. Final Exams are held generally the last day of each month. At the end of any given month, a student may take the final exam of the segment he/she has been attending. By passing the monthly final exam, the student earns 4 CFU/ ECTS.
The final assessment includes both a written and an oral exam. Students must pass both sections to successfully complete the course. Please note that if the final exam is not passed, it cannot be retaken.
The grade is expressed out of a total of 30 points. By passing the final trimester exam for a course with a minimum grade of 18/30, the student earns 12 CFU / ECTS and the right to proceed to the next level.
Upon completion of the program of study, each student will receive a transcript which indicates the number of hours attended, exams passed, and credits acquired.
Diplomas: Students at the levels C1 and C2 may earn a 1st or 2nd degree Diploma of Italian Language and Culture, providing that they complete the Cultural Modules (MC) in addition to the language courses.
Important Note: Completing one or more courses and passing the final exam does not result in an official Italian Language Certification. For information regarding the CILS (Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language), please click here.
